This week’s Want Need Wear Read is featured by Samantha Kearney! Let’s see what she has to say:
Want: This is a fold-able bike helmet from Carrera, making stashing it in a bag much easier…. and look at the ventilation!
Need: A bacon alarm clock! It wakes you up with the smell of real, sizzling bacon! And then you can eat it! Genius! As someone who struggles with a snooze button for at least an hour every morning, this object could profoundly change my life.
Wear: Snakeskin trench coat. Functional and funky, this coat may cause other pedestrians and transit riders to wonder “is she a crazy person? is she a prostitute? is she a time traveler from the 80s?” To be fair, over 95% of the feedback (and I’ve gotten lots) about this coat has been positive.
Read: Words of Science, by Isaac Asimov. Each page quickly discusses the discovery of said element/particle/material/phenomenon, as well as its etymology, so its a great review of Ancient Greek and Latin, with bits of German, French, Arabic, etc. thrown in. It is alphabetically organized. I am currently reading a page spread with “Ferment” on the left and “Fission” on the right, so it jumps around thematically. I love that each word gets a page, making everything easy to read between El stops, so I can pick it up and put it down easily, all while learning a great deal. Its like reading a Wikipedia written entirely by Asimov.
